Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) achieved a high mark being the first company in India to sell over 200,000 units of the Creta in a single calendar year (CY2025). It was also the 10th Anniversary of the Creta’s launch into India and it is one of India’s most popular and trusted SUVs with approximately 34% of the total market share of the midsize SUV segment.
A significant factor influencing the Creta’s continued success has been the broad offering of multiple powertrain options for customers, including gasoline, diesel, turbo gasoline, and electric variants. Currently, HMIL is seeing a growing trend towards first-time or new buyers purchasing a Creta as opposed to repeat customers. In 2020, 13% of buyers were first-time buyers, whereas in CY2025, that same number has grown to 32% of total sales. Finally, customers are becoming much more aspirational, as in CY2025, more than 70% of the total sales have been of models with sunroofs. In the view of Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO Designate, Hyundai Motor India Limited, this milestone is a landmark addition to the history of the company, as it denotes the change of status of the Creta SUV from a vehicle that is able to provide good utility to one that is now providing a true friendship to many families across our nation.
