Ahead of the reveal, Mahindra is looking to hit a home run in the electric SUV space in this country with the Mahindra XEV 9S set to officially break cover in India tomorrow. Following a series of teasers and leaks, the new electric SUV is expected to turn out to be the most spacious and feature-loaded SUV in 7-seater electric vehicle.
Mahindra XEV 9S- Modern and Bold Exterior Design
While the overall silhouette of the Mahindra XEV 9S is similar to the popular XUV700, the front end of the model has been restyled entirely to represent an upcoming generation of Mahindra EVs. It gets a revised XEV 9e-inspired fascia, with inverted L-shaped connected LED DRLs and a sharp triangular headlight setup.
On the side, we see the SUV still features familiar elements like the flush door handles and the kink in the C-pillar window line but the latest teasers show aerodynamically optimised alloy wheels. Around back, minor revisions to the LED taillamps and new skid plate styling finish off a more luxurious touch.
Premium Interior Inspired by the Future
Mahindra has also made several significant changes to the interior to set it apart from the XUV700. Inspired by the XEV 9e, the car gets a premium black and white dual-tone colour scheme along with white leatherette upholstery for the seats and a contemporary 2-spoke steering wheel.
Most notable is a triple-screen setup, intended to boost the digital driving experience. The flat floor, ample boot space and even a frunk (front trunk) for added convenience come from being built on the INGLO EV platform. Instead of a 6-seater layout, the launch will feature a 7-seater layout and Mahindra might also introduce the 6-seater premium version at a later stage.

Feature-Loaded for Comfort and Convenience
The Mahindra XEV 9S is expected to pack multiple luxury and high-tech features such as:
- Ventilated powered front seats
- Triple-zone climate control
- Multi-colour ambient lighting
- Multiple wireless charging pads
- Head-up display
- Keyless entry with push-button start
- 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system
One of the new features showcased in the teasers is also borrowed directly from the XEV 9e EV-coupe.
Advanced Safety & ADAS Technology
Mahindra have always been tough when it comes to safety, and the XEV 9S will follow that trend. The SUV will be provided with up to 7 airbags, ESC, 360-degree camera, front & rear parking sensors and TPMS. It will also implement Level-2 ADAS functions such as:
- Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Keep Assist
We expect these traits to give the 9S a calming and confidence-inspiring drive.
Long-Range Battery Options Expected
XEV is yet to confirm any technical details officially, but the 9S is expected to use the same battery and motor configuration as the XEV 9e:
- 231 PS and just under 542 km claimed range from 59 kWh battery
- 286 PS & ~656 km claimed range from 79 kWh battery
Both configurations will likely be offered with RWD, and an AWD option should be available down the road due to the versatility of the INGLO platform.
In the real world, it looks like the SUV could have comfortably delivered about 500 km of range: enough for longer highway stints.

Final Verdict
In India, the demand for premium electric SUVs is on the rise, and the XEV 9S is coming right on time. This new EV could reshape the segment with very futuristic styling, abundant safety features, meaty battery-range combos and plenty of 7-seat utility. Hopefully, a lot of that is still kept for tomorrow’s launch event, including the price that will dictate just how aggressively Mahindra intends to go at the market.
